Khao Lak is one of the most beautiful places we've ever visited. All of us moved here knowing that we would earn less money, teach fewer students and only have work 6-8 months of the year
And we still keep coming back!
Unlike Phuket, or Pattaya or Samui we are not overdeveloped. There will always be those that say it wasn't like it was 20 years ago, but nothing is. Khao Lak has retained it's real character - the laid back attitude and peaceful feeling that made so many people fall in love.
The tsunami did a large amount of damage, and many lives were lost. We were all deeply affected by that - losing our houses, our possessions, our shop and many friends besides
But the indominable Thai spirit, the beuaty and a certain amount of hope brought us all back here to start again. Our fears are not of Mother Earth and her moods, our fears are that people will overlook our paradise for the corruption and characterless void of the massive tourist areas of Thailand and then believe that the whole country is like that. It's not, Thailand is truly amazing
Break the mold and visit the real thailand, the one you have dreamed of.
We'll be right here waiting for you
In Khao Lak there are plenty of places to stay, ranging in price from 200 Baht to more than 25,000 Baht a night. There is a good reason some of the most luxurious resorts in the world are right here! find out for yourself
We have some of the most famous and luxurioous spas in thailand, as well s amazing restaurants and resorts.
There are several dive centers to choose for your day trips. We are the center of thailand's Liveabaords as well. Most Phuket based baots actually depart from our pier (afterr a long ride ain a mini-bus). Save time, and money by coming right ot the source. We dive these sites every day and will give you the scoop on where the best dives area, what the best boats are and how to get you there!
The reason for all the fuss? We have Thaialnd's best divingg just an hour away. Amazing reefs with huge fish and little ones too. The similan National MArine PArk, as well as Richelieu rock are part of our daily orutine. Just north are the Surin Islands, and Burma. We also depart for the Fabled AndamnIslands from here. There's more! we have some amazing biodiversity at our local shipwrecks, new reefs are being discovered and we even have freshwter diving at the largest lake in thailand. sounds good?
There's more!
Less than one hour away are several great golf courses, jungle trekking, turtle nesting sanctuaries, Thailands largest national park, Thailand's largest lake, hidden temples, mountain top buddhas, yoga retreats, more than 100 km of white sand beaches, newly discovered reefs and did we mention the best diving in thialand!
If you have fears, be assured that we have several tsunami warning systems inplace, evacuation plans as well as highly trained rescue police.
The Phuket International Airport is only 50 minutes South of us, and we are located on the main North/South highway connecting Phuket to Bangkok. Getting here and away couldn't be any easier.
so, give a spin around the website, see what you turn up. Keep coming back, we'll be adding more and more hints and secrets as time allows .
Since we live here and work on these boats and live in these guesthouses and eat in these restaurants, we hope you can save some time and energy by checking out a few of the places we recommend
We also feel very strongly about supporting the community at large, not just the divers. We encourage you to eat at restaurants that were here before the tsunami, and helped when times were tough. There are a few bars that opened up to exploit the disaster, we instead recommend places to spend your money that actually help our community (not carpetbaggers). We encourage the use of companies that were here before, during and after the tsunami, and whose Thai and Farang staff are long time residents
